Simon was found collapsed on the side of a road in Puerto Rico, where he had been lying injured for three heartbreaking days after being struck by a car. By the time help from our shelter arrived, he was dangerously weak, suffering from heat, pain, and trauma, but still mustering the strength to lick the hands of our people who lifted him to safety.
Emergency surgery saved his life, repairing the damage done to his spine, but the road ahead remains long. Simon is slowly learning to walk again. He relies on round-the-clock care, specialized medications, and a gentle diet of shredded chicken and rice (which has slowly expanded) as he regains his strength.
Despite all he endured, Simon meets each day with quiet gratitude and a spark of hope — little kisses, smiles, and tail wags that remind us how deeply he wants to live.
