MORE ABOUT US:

Animal Lighthouse Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit rescue in New York City that works to eliminate the stray dog and cat population in Puerto Rico, by saving animals from PR and bringing them to NYC to find loving forever homes.

Puerto Rico has a 90+% euthanisa rate, so should a dog enter a shelter, the chances of that dog leaving are slim to none. This includes highly adoptable little puppies and kittens. The dog and cat population is constantly growing and there are very little resources available to address the issue. The stray dogs of Puerto Rico, aka Satos, are the friendly and loving “dogs next door.” They have so much love to offer and have to overcome so much in order to survive.

Animal Lighthouse Rescue’s sister shelter is El Faro de los Animales in Humacao, PR. At this no-kill shelter, rescued dogs and cats receive all the medical treatment they need, lots of TLC, and get to live in a peaceful environment nestled in the jungle. When each dog is ready, they get to make their freedom flight to NYC where the Animal Lighthouse Team is ready and waiting with volunteers to get each dog/cat into it’s foster home and all settled in. Once in foster care, another team of dedicated volunteers work day and night to find each dog and cat it’s perfect forever home.

We never turn down a pet in need. While we focus on Puerto Rico, we answer the call to help from shelters in the South (South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Miami, etc), as well as help local surrendered pets here in the city.

We are just months away from running out of the funds we need to continue our life-saving work.

“I could not be more thankful for Animal Lighthouse. They brought the most perfect angel to me and I cannot imagine my life without him. Not all rescues are created equal, and ALR is truly one of the best. Their efforts are for the sole purpose of saving dogs and getting them into good homes, while also supporting the adopters and setting them up for success. Azul and I are so lucky to be ALR alums!” - Ashley
